Services Overview
Thun provides integrated financial planning and investment management. We look at your entire financial picture and your goals and help you decide how to best invest your money to reach those goals. Our fee ranges from 0.4% to 1.5% of assets under management depending on the size of your portfolio and the complexity of planning needs. We focus on:
Needs analysis
We use sophisticated planning software and detailed financial information to make projections that answer questions such as: How much will I need at retirement to maintain my lifestyle? How much must I save between now and then to reach that goal? What risk will there be that my assets may not be enough to maintain that lifestyle throughout my retirement?
Investment management
Please see Investment Management page.
Taxation
Since every investment and financial decision must be weighed in light of its tax implications, we will continually work with you, coordinating with accountants and lawyers as necessary, to help answer questions such as: What changes do I need to make year to year in response to changes in the tax code? Will taking a profit on an investment now trigger the Alternative Minimum Tax? How do I ensure that my children pay the least amount of tax possible when they inherit my tax-deferred investment retirement account?
Issues facing Americans abroad
Please see Americans Living Abroad page.
Retirement planning
Once you have established your savings and investment goals, we help sort through retirement planning choices and recommend a combination that makes the most sense for you. Questions that will be answered include: Where should I put the savings? Is a Roth IRA or a traditional IRA more appropriate? Should I roll over my 401k into an IRA if I leave my employer? If I am self-employed, should I establish a SIMPLE, a SEP or an individual 401k plan?
Estate planning
Properly planning your estate can vastly increase the after-tax wealth left to your heirs. Coordinating with your estate attorney, we help guide you through the maze of estate planning techniques available, to minimize the various taxes triggered at death and assure that your assets end up in the hands you intend.
Insurance
How much life insurance do I need? What is an ILIT and should I have one? Are annuities ever a smart investment? We’ll help you understand how insurance products work and which ones are appropriate for your individual situation.
College savings
529s, UTMAs, Coverdells - what is the best way to save for my children's education? How much will I need to save each year to make sure the money is there when they head off to school?
Charitable giving
How can I maximize the tax advantage of my charitable contributions? What is a Charitable Remainder Trust and might it be appropriate for my family? We help clients sort through the options and figure out the right way to give.
